4,3,2,1,1 Dudes corchet beenie!

4-3-2-1-1 Guy's Beenie Cap

Introduction:

SO, I'm a guy, and I crochet, YAY! Don't think I'm so macho? Step a little closer so my hooks and needles can hear you!

The name for this pattern is the decrease pattern that is used to finish off the hat.

ANYWHO, I needed a hat that was quick, easy, versatile, and stylish... for dudes!

I personally cant stand the over feminine stuff that we have out there that look ugly and that guys want nothing to do with, so I came up with this hat pattern.

It follows the following criteria:

  1. Its easy!, no gauge involved! You can literally do this hat millions of ways and not have to calculate gauge.

  2. There are no limits to the yarns you can choose! By weight that is.

  3. Its fast, I call this my one hour cap, because it is!

Materials:

1)Choose a yarn: Worsted, Bulky, or Super-Bulky it doesn't matter!

2)Hook: use the same hook for any yarn you choose! (don't mix and match weights!)

3)I suggest a J/ 6.0mm hook

4)Yarn cutter/ scissors

Getting Started:

Chain enough Stitches to snugly wrap around your head (tail to tail)

note: this differs by yarn, so I suggest using the following suggestions if you worry

      1. for worsted weights chain around 70 st

      2. for bulky weights chain around 65 st

      3. and for super bulky chain about 55-60

Being careful not to twist, join first st and last st to form a ring, ch 2

Rows 1-9* dc in each st, join with a sl st in ch2

*bulky and super bulky yarns use less rows, bulky will have 8, and super bulky will have 6 rows and that will be the body of the hat.

Row10: Ch2, dc 3, *skip next st, and dc in next st, dc 3, repeat from * (this means you will have 4 dc then 1 decrease) Join with ss

Row 11: Ch2, dc 2, *skip next st, and dc in next st, dc 2, repeat from * end with ss.

Row 12: Ch2, dc 1, *skip next st, and dc in next st, dc 1, repeat from * end with ss.

Row 13: Ch2, dc, *skip next st, and dc in next st, dc, repeat from * end with ss. (dc, skip 1, dc)

Row 14: repeat row 13

Finishing off: ss in dc directly across from hook ( this s closes the hole) then weave in ends.

The Realizations

so, yeah
i have once again been spoken to about my problem with confidentioality and personal info gossip. and yet again i realize that i am talkimng about people.

the binary.

on one end i be leive that i am being seen as a gossip whore and through a mixture of human nature and anger, i reflect this awaty from myself. basically i am blaming others and trying to take them doen with me 9 something i have been doing since childhood).
on the other hand, i am defending my actions, thinking that they are not gossip but merely a relay of information to oters based on my personal eperience.

some other underlying reasons that i use as excuses are:
my age, and the youth thereof is the reason for my own immaturity
my mother, and the example she led for me.
blaming my peers as the cause, or as the instigating matter of the cause
my own poor people skills and tendency of faux pas, and political incorrectness
my in ability of understanding social limits or "the line"
etc...
5-15-09
so ive realized that i am competative, to the point where it in invalidates others!
5-19-2009
i sometimes ride on my high horse and end up hurting others worse than i end up helping,
but when others call me out on it, YET are being rude or abrassive about it, i should take thier advice, but let them know not to be so abbrasive because it is JUST as destructive! and vice versa!
BUT, there are instances where people with rough and generally BITCHY personallities get to me, like when jess did the quiz otunately a lot of the traits fit me so i can see that, i responded by doing the same quiz that she dn 5 biggest pet peeves! and Jessie comments back and i thought they were talking about me, unforid with all of my pet peeves against her on there! i ended up finding one term that describes her: DIsmissive! she invalidates me when she dismissies topics that i bring up because she thinks she knows more than me, or i might not say something that is cool or 100% correct.
so this invalidation is my biggest problem!

SO i went to NYC with katy, what i thought was a good idea turned out to be a clusterfucked nightmare. she wanted to drag me around the city doing everything, and i wanted to be more relaxed and sponateous. so i spent lots of my time fuming over the little shit. then the shrink told me something that made sense, we arent compatible travelers. she is a sheep, a tourist, who wants to take pics, ooh and ahh. i am a traveler, who wants to do that shit, but spontaneously, i dont want to spend my time huddled behind maps. i know what i wanna do, before i get there! she just wanted to go to touristy shit!
maybe, traveling should be done with people i agree with.

Diabetes-Sugar is not the enemy

So I was diagnosed with diabetes in January of 2009. and I must admit i knew i was at risk, but didnt take care of myself.
type 2 diabetes is a scary diagnosis! being overweight was my first inkling, then my doctor was asking questions about pre-diabetes symptoms. i knew that i was borderline prediabetic from the age of 16. and by the age of 19 i was diabetic. it's scary, not knowing what you can eat. popular media makes sugar the enemy. and so did I. i basically panicked and started eating more healthy foods.

But that can be farther from the truth.

All sugars are carbohydrates, and like there are different sugars, there are different kinds of carbs.

Simple carbohydrates, found in processed breads and sugary snacks, are the most common because they are the most marketed!

Complex Carbs, found in whole or multigrain products are the ones i should have been looking at. Foods rich in slowly digested carbs and fiber!

heres a trick i learned, my favourite snack on long retreats is SunChips and Hummus!
(a food ive grown attached to in college)

In a 100 calorie pack of sunchips there is 12g of carbs, and less than 1 g fiber
barely any fiber, i know.
well, if you add in the carbs from the hummus, about 1/4 cup, you have 16 carbs

now subtract the total fiber from the total carbs

16g Carbs-2g Fiber= WOW...14g Carbs!
and if ~15g carbs is a single carb serving youve got a well balanced snack!
and how about some snap peas and carrots instead!

another thing i learned is that i can enjoy the same foods as before, as long as i fit them into my carb counting plan. that means i can eat foods like sushi and chilli with corn bread! but substitute some of the sugar for splenda or meat for high fiber veggies.

Really, the best place to start is here
